Lab Motto	Do Differently - Professor Robin K. Harris, Durham University, UK This means researchers should do things different from other people in a different way. If you always challlenge yourself in doing things differently, results will follow shortly after.
We aim to train students to bestow them with following skills	1. We train human resourcess that can tackle complex problems in the real world.We appreciate education in independent problem solving skills rather than research achievements itself. Solving cutting-edge problems in research better trains problem-solving skills. We train our students to develop "multi-purpose application in thought process", "basic technique" and "instinct in polymer materials". The instances for this are given below. 2. In our laboratory there are various spectroscopy machines (see Equipments). We seldom buy machines on market and use them as they are. We aim for data that can't be measured in other laboratory by making modifications to the machines on the market, and use these precious data to design new and novel polymer materials. 3. We aim to predict physical polymers by understanding polymer morphology and electronic structure. A polymer is never a 2D structure seen in structure diagrams. By having a 3D image in mind and respective electronic structure of the polymer, we aim to understand the polymer materials. 4. We place importance on theoretical predictions by quantum chemical calculations. We are not Quantum chemistry laboratory but many of our students understand and use molecular orbital calculations and density functional theory frequently. 5. Whilst it is true that best efforts are required take all of the above in, it's not an overnight job and it takes time. Hence we place priority on students willing to advance into graduate school. We also welcome students willing to advance to Ph.D. 6. On the other hand, once outside the university, presentation skills and English communication is indispensible. Our students develop perfect presentation technique and slide creation. We aim to train linguistic abilities by sending students to international conferences, TOEIC encouragement measures, support on studying abroad and exchange students. We also have financial assistance measures on chemical qualifications that are useful in working life. 　 7. We do not have age-bound groups and hence leadership within the group and cooperation are indispensible skills that we train in preparation for your working life. 8. Since you are at Tokyo Institute of Technology, get a Ph.D and become a researcher or an engineer! We aim to train our students to be "an engineer or researcher that has an Ph.D" rather than "On the rail for an academic position".
